[00:00:00] Speaker: Have you wanted to learn something new or train your dog to do something new or better their behavior, or just do something fun like go fishing. Something you haven't done in a while, hanging out with friends, but when the time came or you had the opportunity, you didn't have the energy, oh, I have felt that way, and I'm a superhero.
[00:00:20] Yep. You heard it. I'm a superhero. I fight Crohn's disease. So to me, to perform at my best energy's everything. And I can tell you it's the fuel for your focus. It's the fuel for your productivity and your connection with your dog and other people around you with no energy. It's really hard to focus when you're not productive, that can actually affect your energy.
[00:00:42] So there's a cycle. But here's the thing, most people don't even realize how their energy. Affects others around them and themself, the lack of energy or the, uh, too much intensity of the energy. And a lot of us don't realize how our energy is actually holding us back. So today I would like to change that.
[00:01:07] Let's talk about how to assess your energy, how to manage it like a pro and become the energy manager that your dog needs. Because you are the energy manager that your dog needs, you are responsible. For the energy that you bring. And one thing that I loved to hear one time I really needed to hear it, Brendan had said to me in a, in a event, he said, we think of energy, power plants that have lots of energy, but he's like the power plant itself.
[00:01:37] If you think a power plant doesn't have energy, it generates it. And I'm like, oh, I needed to hear that. What can I do to generate and bring the energy sometimes? That's backing off getting rest. Sometimes that's bringing something else, a different mindset, so let me help you with that. Let's talk about energy.
[00:01:57] Talking about energy. It's Uncle Duke, your trainer and coach. This week we're diving into energy awareness because if you don't know where your energy's going, then you can't manage it effectively and you can know exactly what you want, where you want to go, how you wanna do it, but you're not gonna do it if you have.
[00:02:17] I don't have energy, or if you have too much and you're distracted. For those of us who are the A DHD folks, myself, I'm raising my hand here. So let's talk about one key point that's important, bringing awareness to your energy. How often do you do that? Hourly. Daily. When's the last time you did it? Let's be honest.
[00:02:39] What kind of energy did you assess? There's different types of energy that we're affected by. We can have lots of physical energy and we can do things physically to help us be in shape and fit and we feel good after workouts and we can, you know, feel exhausted too. But why? Maybe it's mental. Maybe there's a mental block, mental energy, something that's de draining you, that causing a little bit of some depression or, you know, emotional energy, spiritual energy.
[00:03:09] So there's lots of different types of energy, mental, emotional, physical, spiritual. If you don't have your journal out right now, it's probably a good idea. As you know, I'm a guy that says, bust your journal out, grab a pen. Um, let's help you do an assessment. Let's bring some awareness to your energy on a scale of one to 10, 10 being the highest.
[00:03:35] Okay. 10 being like, you're, you're rocking it. And one meaning like you're seriously struggling, you need some help. You need to reach out, you gotta do something like now to get a coach, get a friend, get a partner, get some motivation, get some focus. What it is where you need help, blood work, whatever it is.
[00:03:51] Okay. One is the lowest, 10 is the highest. How? How would you rate your energy right now, like right now, on a scale of one to 10, your mental energy? Write it down and rate it. Emotional, physical energy. You know, your spiritual energy, you know, Proverbs 4 23 above all out, scared your heart from everything you do, flows from it.
[00:04:15] Your energy is critical. Okay? So I want to talk about three ways to manage your energy, three ways for us, and three ways for the dogs. How about that? For us humans, I am highly recommending a morning routine. Okay. It's been proven. Oh, duke, I don't like getting up in the morning. That's okay. It's been proven by science.
[00:04:40] You know, the highest performing people do things, do the hard things to grow, right? So get up a little bit earlier, get to bed a little bit earlier, you know. Morning routines are critical. So no matter what time you're getting up or whatever, set a routine that's gonna set you up and your day up for success.
[00:04:59] Alright? I talked about it in one of the audios about morning routines, kind of healthy, but that's gonna help us manage our energy. What you bring in garbage in, garbage out. Okay. Do you ever hear that? So morning routines, healthy routines. You know, setting what, what do you do that sets you up and builds your energy?
[00:05:18] And what do you do for your morning routine? Now that hurts your energy? All right? If you're going to the phone first thing in the morning, that's crushing your energy. So what can you do to set up a good, healthy morning routine? The next one is midday reset or so a reset would be. Stepping away from your project, your work, your time, every 50 minutes for five minutes, like literally for five to 10 minutes, no more.
[00:05:48] So if you're balancing between lessons and dogs and emails and things, if you're a trainer. You know, or whatever. You can work the dog. I always work the dog, do a little closing my eyes for a midday reset, you know, two to five minutes. Usually it's 10 to 15 because I'll work a dog and get some breath in there.
[00:06:06] Um, a midday reset can be a nap. If you need a nap, take a nap. That's high performance. It's not lazy. It's actually highly, really recommended when we're, when I'm coaching, um, if you need to take it, be strategic. Whatever you do, be intentional about it. Is it setting you up and helping your energy manage it?
[00:06:25] And the third one I would say is your evening wind down. So how you get up in the morning also sets the stage for the day. And how you wind down affects your sleep and that affects your energy big time. So those are the ways for us common sense. I know, but hey, are you doing it? It's not common practice.
[00:06:49] Common sense isn't common practice. Now let's talk about some three ways to manage energy for the dogs. Number one, structured exercise. Hey, that sounds a little bit like us, right? Maybe you could do some structured exercise together. Maybe the morning routine. Dogs don't care when usually, I mean, they can be lazy in the morning and energetic in the morning.
[00:07:10] What's your dog like right now? What do you want the dog to be like? You're gonna have to shape it and you can. But structured exercise, uh, fetching the balls, you know, getting into activity. Um, physical exercise, usually we could call it very healthy. Um, but there's also mental stimulation, right? Mental stimulation, mental exercise.
[00:07:32] You can do these things to increase your productivity, and that's gonna help everybody's energy. So when you are exercising your dog, instead of just senselessly throwing a ball. Or just going on a walk letting them pull. Why don't we do some training? And now we're doing like these intermittent breakouts of, you know, you can make it a habit of doing a random acts of kindness.
[00:08:00] A little breakout of kindness here and there. Why don't we break out a little obedience, attention, doing the little things, mental stimulation during the day in the lifestyle instead of, you know, like a good 30 minute walk or a good 15. Minute, high interval training session is way better, you know, physically, uh, than, than it is, uh, two hours at the gym.
[00:08:23] Well, mental stimulation, if you're really focusing on what you're doing more makes sense. The mental stuff, it's way more exhausting, shaping dogs, uh, with positive training to create their own behaviors. That's phenomenal, powerful stuff. And clear communication. That'd be the third one. I would recommend ways to manage a dog's energy clear communication.
[00:08:47] 'cause if you can't communicate with a dog and you're just like yammering on, or you know, yelling or it's not there, it's frustrating. That can stress dogs, it can stress you. Now everybody's energy's down. So that's just some basic tips. Structured exercise, mental stimulation. You can do those things at the same time.
[00:09:06] Learn how to clearly communicate. I went over that in an audio and previous. What I'd love you to do is write three questions down for helping you move forward and get some value from this audio. Ask yourself this. What are your habits like that are supporting? You want you to acknowledge that for your energy, but what's one thing that's draining your energy right now and how can you address it?
[00:09:36] Next question I would ask is, what's one way that you can help your dog? Release excess energy today, or maybe build some healthy energy. Maybe they're really sluggish and tired and lazy and maybe they got too much money in the wallet, meaning they're overweight. Okay, so what's one way you can help your dog get a better energy?
[00:09:59] Maybe they got too much, but Duke, you don't understand. I walk him three times a day for an hour. It's not. The dog for a walk. What else can we do to jack it up and challenge the challenge the dog, if they get too much energy, sometimes it's a matter of consequences of learning to focus. They have to have self-awareness too.
[00:10:18] Good things and bad things. It's not all just fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. Chase the ball if you wanna burn that energy, like I said. But what's one way you can help your dog release excess energy today? And the third question, if you were to rate your energy management skills, which you should. The ones that support you, and what are the things that you're doing that you know that you could tweak, that you could change, that you can adjust, that are not helping you with your energy?
[00:10:45] Let's put it that way. Let's not look at good or bad. Let's just look at cause and effect. What are you doing that's not helping you with your energy? What are you doing that does support your energy? And now you've got some, some easy Pickens you can say, Hmm. What would you look at your score and what's one thing you could take to.
[00:11:03] Prove it. Just take one. Just one simple action step. That's growth if you try and do it all at once, and you might not. So I hope you loved this audio. If you did and it resonated, I'd love to hear from you. Let me know. What did you learn? What did you like most? If you're interested in a community that has good energy, we leave the egos at the door we're, I've designed a community.
[00:11:30] It's called UPX. Community, the Unleashed potential experience. And I go in there and I coach live every two weeks and I come up with new concepts. Uh, we're celebrating, we're going through the struggles, the breakthroughs, you name it. If that's something that you're interested in, hey, join me over in my community at UPX and if you have questions or if there's things you'd like to me talk on.
